The Oliver Hotel of Oxford

Oxford, Mississippi

Description

The renovation of the former Chancellory Hotel into The Oliver Hotel of Oxford for Oliver Hospitality offered an exciting opportunity to blend the town’s rich heritage with modern design sensibilities. Situated in the heart of this southern college town, the design draws inspiration from Oxford’s charm, traditions, and natural beauty. A palette of deep blues, warm oranges, and soft neutrals evokes the region’s earthy landscape, while vintage-inspired furniture and custom pieces reflect the history and vibrancy of the town.

Mey & Co. embraced these influences throughout the hotel’s interiors, creating a seamless blend of past and present. Vintage floral prints, hand-painted details, and custom lighting pieces nod to southern tradition, while guest rooms combine rich wood finishes and soft textiles, offering a contemporary take on classic elegance. In the bathrooms, traditional clawfoot bathtubs are paired with sleek, modern surfaces, marrying history with luxury.

The public spaces continue this fusion, with eclectic furnishings and locally sourced art creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. The Kingswood restaurant, with its seasonal menu and tapas-style dishes, offers a relaxed yet refined space for dining, while the intimate speakeasy, Nightbird, brings a touch of the Prohibition era with its dark floral wallpaper, vintage lighting, and custom furniture. Looking ahead, the hotel plans to add a rooftop bar, which will offer stunning views of Oxford and further enhance the guest experience, blending modern sophistication with the town’s historic charm. The result is a space that feels both nostalgic and contemporary, inviting guests to experience the best of both worlds.
