ORANGE BIKE BREWING
PORTLAND, MAINE
Mey & Co. redefined the brewery experience with Orange Bike Brewing, transforming a raw warehouse space in Portland, Maine, into a light-filled, design-forward tasting room that challenges traditional brewery aesthetics. Departing from the heavy, industrial feel of most breweries, the space embraces a bright and almost residential quality, blending mid-century modern and Italian influences with carefully selected materials and finishes. Inspired by the brewery’s name and owner Tom Ruff’s vision, chrome accents, compact detailing, and a crisp, streamlined layout echo the precision and efficiency of a Fiat. The storefront windows open up the brewing process to guests, reinforcing the brand’s transparency and craftsmanship.
A collaboration with Makewell Made introduced custom blind bike drawings in the bathrooms, reflecting the iterative nature of both brewing and design. The bar features a Richlite countertop—an eco-friendly, paper-based material that develops character over time—paired with a black walnut front, detailed with a bird’s beak edge. Chrome edge banding on tables and a polished metal bar kick further emphasize the automotive-inspired aesthetic, while the periwinkle vinyl banquette seating evokes classic vehicle upholstery. Ample natural light, a garage door opening onto an alley, and a seamless integration of the brewing equipment create an inviting, functional space where branding and experience align. The result is a refined, design-conscious take on the modern brewery—one that feels distinctly Orange Bike.
